CHINESE PEPPER STEAK

Chinese Pepper Steak is a savory and hearty stir-fry dish that combines tender slices of beef with crisp bell peppers and onions, all tossed in a flavorful soy-based sauce. Ingredients:

  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water or beef broth
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Cooked rice, for serving
  • Optional: green onions or sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the beef: In a small bowl, toss the sliced beef with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, and cornstarch. Set aside to marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Make the sauce: In a separate bowl, mix together the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, water or beef broth, sugar, and black pepper. Set aside.
  3. Stir-fry the beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
  4. Stir-fry the vegetables: In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Stir-fry the onions, bell peppers, garlic, and ginger for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are slightly softened but still crisp.
  5. Combine and simmer: Return the beef to the pan and pour in the prepared sauce. Stir everything together and cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the beef and vegetables.
  6. Serve: Serve the Chinese Pepper Steak over cooked rice, garnished with green onions or sesame seeds if desired.
