Arroz con Leche Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup white rice (short grain or medium grain works best)
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 lemon or orange peel (optional)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Ground cinnamon, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Cook the rice: In a medium saucepan, combine the rice, water, cinnamon stick, and citrus peel (if using). Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes, or until the rice is tender and has absorbed most of the water.
  2. Add milk and sugar: Remove the citrus peel and add the milk to the saucepan. Stir in the sugar and bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently to prevent the rice from sticking.
  3. Simmer until creamy: Continue cooking the mixture over low heat, stirring occasionally, for 20-30 minutes until the rice has absorbed most of the milk and the pudding has thickened to your desired consistency.
  4. Add vanilla: Stir in the vanilla extract and cook for another 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
  5. Cool and serve: Allow the arroz con leche to cool slightly before serving. You can enjoy it warm or refrigerate it to serve chilled. Sprinkle ground cinnamon on top for garnish.

Serve this delicious arroz con leche as a cozy dessert that’s sure to bring comfort with every bite!
