Ingredients

For the Bread Dough

  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Spaghetti Filling

  • 6 ounces spaghetti
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Fresh basil or parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Make the Bread Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until the mixture becomes frothy.
    • Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
    • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  2. Cook the Spaghetti:
    • While the dough is rising, cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef or sausage, onion, and garlic. Cook until the meat is browned and the onion is soft, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
    • Stir in the marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for about 5 minutes.
    • Add the cooked spaghetti to the sauce and toss to combine. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. Assemble the Spaghetti Bread:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
    • Roll out the risen dough on a floured surface into a large rectangle.
    • Place the spaghetti mixture down the center of the dough, leaving space on the edges for folding. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the spaghetti.
    • Fold the sides of the dough over the filling, pinching to seal the edges and ends.
  5. Bake the Bread:
    • Transfer the bread to the prepared baking sheet. Brush the top with the beaten egg.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Serve:
    • Let the spaghetti bread cool for a few minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.

Spaghetti Bread is a fun and delicious twist on classic spaghetti, offering a creative way to enjoy pasta and bread in one delightful dish. Perfect for family dinners or entertaining guests, this dish is sure to become a favorite.
