Pretzel Rolls

Pretzel Rolls are a deliciously soft and chewy treat with the signature golden-brown crust and slightly salty flavor of a traditional pretzel. These rolls are made by shaping dough into round buns, boiling them briefly in a baking soda solution, and then baking them until perfectly golden. They’re ideal for sandwiches, burgers, or simply enjoyed on their own with a bit of butter. The process is straightforward, and the result is a flavorful, homemade roll with a wonderful pretzel-like texture.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2/3 cup baking soda
  • 10 cups water
  • Coarse salt for sprinkling

Instructions:

  1. Make the Dough:
    • In a bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit until foamy. In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and melted butter. Add the yeast mixture and knead until smooth. Let the dough rise for 1 hour.
  2. Shape the Rolls:
    • Divide the dough into 8-10 pieces and shape each into a round ball. Let them rise for an additional 15 minutes.
  3. Boil the Rolls:
    • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil and add the baking soda. Boil each roll for 30 seconds on each side.
  4. Bake:
    • Place the boiled rolls on a baking sheet, sprinkle with coarse salt, and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Enjoy these Pretzel Rolls as a tasty, homemade treat that’s perfect for any occasion!
