Oven-Fried Pork Chops

Oven-fried pork chops are a fantastic way to enjoy the crispy, juicy texture of fried pork chops without the extra calories and mess of deep frying. This method combines the best of both worlds: the pork chops are breaded and seasoned to perfection, then baked in the oven until they achieve a golden, crispy crust while remaining tender and moist on the inside. Perfect for a weeknight dinner or a special occasion, these oven-fried pork chops are sure to become a family favorite.

Ingredients:

  • 4 bone-in pork chops (about 1-inch thick)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce (optional)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Cooking spray

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place a wire rack on top of a baking sheet and lightly coat it with cooking spray.
  2. Prepare the Pork Chops: In a large bowl, mix the buttermilk and hot sauce. Add the pork chops, ensuring they are fully submerged. Let them marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours in the refrigerator.
  3. Prepare the Breading: In a shallow dish, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). In another shallow dish, mix the panko breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese.
  4. Bread the Pork Chops: Remove the pork chops from the buttermilk, letting any excess drip off. Dredge each pork chop in the seasoned flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Dip them back into the buttermilk, then coat them with the panko-Parmesan mixture, pressing down to ensure the breadcrumbs adhere well.
  5. Prepare for Baking: Place the breaded pork chops on the prepared wire rack. Drizzle or spray the tops of the pork chops lightly with olive oil or cooking spray to help them brown and crisp up in the oven.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pork chops reach an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) and the breading is golden and crispy.
  7. Serve: Remove from the oven and let the pork chops rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy them with your favorite sides for a complete meal.

These oven-fried pork chops are a delightful, healthier alternative to traditional fried pork chops, offering all the flavor and crunch without the guilt!
