Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 2/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Extra heavy cream for brushing
  • Coarse sugar for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the dried cranberries and chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  5. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract.
  6. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. The dough should be slightly sticky but hold together when pressed.
  7. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a 1-inch thick disc.
  8. Cut the disc into 8 wedges and place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each scone.
  9. Brush the tops of the scones with extra heavy cream and sprinkle with coarse sugar, if desired.
  10. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  11. Allow the scones to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  12. Serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy your Chocolate Chip-Cranberry Scones with a cup of tea or coffee!
