Ingredients

For the cake:

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the frosting:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract until smooth. Slowly stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until well combined. Stir in the boiling water last (the batter will be thin).
  4. Bake the cake: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  5. Make the frosting: In a medium bowl, beat the softened butter and cocoa powder together until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and milk, alternating between the two, until the frosting reaches a creamy consistency. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Assemble the cake: Once the cakes are completely cooled, spread a layer of frosting on top of one cake layer. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

This Chocolate Cake is the ultimate indulgence, perfect for any occasion and guaranteed to satisfy your chocolate cravings with its moist, tender crumb and rich, creamy frosting!
