Bourbon Balls

Bourbon balls are a classic Southern treat, especially popular during the holiday season. These no-bake confections combine the rich, oaky flavor of bourbon with the sweetness of chocolate and the crunch of pecans, resulting in a deliciously indulgent bite-sized dessert. Perfect for gifting or serving at gatherings, bourbon balls offer a delightful balance of boozy warmth and sweet decadence, making them a festive favorite for many.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup pecans, finely chopped
  • 1 cup vanilla wafer crumbs (about 30 wafers)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar, plus extra for coating
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup bourbon
  • 3 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Pecans: Spread the chopped pecans on a baking sheet and toast them in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 5-7 minutes, or until they are fragrant. Allow them to cool completely.
  2. Make the Dough: In a large bowl, combine the vanilla wafer crumbs, toasted pecans, 1 cup of powdered sugar, and cocoa powder. Stir until the mixture is evenly combined.
  3. Add the Wet Ingredients: In a separate small bowl, whisk together the bourbon, corn syrup, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir until a sticky dough forms.
  4. Form the Balls: Using your hands, roll the dough into 1-inch balls. If the mixture is too sticky to handle, you can chill it in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes to firm up slightly.
  5. Coat the Bourbon Balls: Roll each ball in the extra powdered sugar until fully coated. For a festive touch, you can also roll them in cocoa powder or finely chopped pecans.
  6. Chill and Serve: Place the bourbon balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving. Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Enjoy these rich, flavorful bourbon balls as a sweet treat or a thoughtful gift for friends and family!
