MANICOTTI

Manicotti is a classic Italian comfort dish featuring large pasta tubes filled with a rich, creamy ricotta cheese mixture, then topped with marinara sauce and melted mozzarella. This baked pasta dish is hearty, satisfying, and perfect for a family dinner or special occasion. The filling, often made with ricotta, Parmesan, and spinach, offers a deliciously creamy contrast to the tangy marinara sauce. Baked until golden and bubbly, Manicotti is the ultimate comfort food that will leave everyone asking for seconds.

Ingredients

  • 12 manicotti pasta shells
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped (optional)
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the manicotti shells according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Prepare the Filling: In a large bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, 1 cup of shredded mozzarella, Parmesan, egg, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and spinach (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir until well combined.
  3. Stuff the Manicotti: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Carefully stuff each manicotti shell with the ricotta mixture using a spoon or piping bag, being gentle to avoid tearing the pasta.
  4. Assemble the Dish: Spread 1 cup of marinara sauce on the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Arrange the filled manicotti shells on top of the sauce. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the stuffed shells, making sure to cover them evenly.
  5. Top with Cheese: Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded mozzarella over the top of the sauce.
  6. Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25-30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the edges are golden.
  7. Serve: Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and serve hot.

Enjoy your delicious, cheesy Manicotti, a classic Italian dish that’s perfect for a comforting, family-friendly meal!
