Taco Puffs

Taco Puffs are a fun and delicious twist on traditional tacos, perfect for parties, game days, or a quick weeknight dinner. These bite-sized delights feature a savory taco filling encased in flaky puff pastry, offering a crispy exterior and a flavorful, seasoned interior. With ground beef or turkey, taco seasoning, cheese, and your favorite toppings all wrapped up in buttery pastry, Taco Puffs are both easy to make and irresistibly tasty. They’re great for serving as appetizers or snacks, and they pair wonderfully with salsa, guacamole, or sour cream for dipping.

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 packet (1 oz) taco seasoning mix
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped bell pepper (optional)
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Salsa, guacamole, or sour cream (for serving)
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish, optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cook Meat Filling: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or turkey until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain any excess fat. Add the taco seasoning mix and water, stirring until well combined. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the mixture is thickened. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Prepare Puff Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut into 9 squares, about 3×3 inches each.
  4. Assemble Taco Puffs: Spoon a small amount of the taco mixture onto the center of each puff pastry square. Top with a sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese. Fold the corners of the pastry squares over the filling to form a pocket or fold the pastry in half to make a triangle. Press the edges to seal and use a fork to crimp the edges for extra security.
  5. Apply Egg Wash: Brush the tops of the puffs with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  6. Bake: Place the assembled puffs on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
  7. Serve: Let the Taco Puffs cool slightly before serving. Garnish with chopped fresh cilantro if desired, and serve with salsa, guacamole, or sour cream for dipping.

Taco Puffs are a tasty, portable take on classic taco flavors, perfect for sharing with friends and family or enjoying as a quick and satisfying treat.
