Ingredients:
- 1/2 lb ground pork
- 1/2 lb shrimp, peeled, deveined, and finely chopped
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1/4 tsp white pepper
- 1 package round wonton wrappers
- 1 small carrot, finely grated (for garnish, optional)
- Soy sauce, chili oil, or black vinegar for dipping
Instructions:
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, chopped shrimp, green onions, garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, cornstarch, sugar, and white pepper. Mix thoroughly until the ingredients are well incorporated.
- Assemble the Dumplings:
- Place a wonton wrapper on a clean, flat surface. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the filling into the center of the wrapper. Gather the edges of the wrapper up around the filling, pressing gently to form a pleated “cup” shape, leaving the top open. Gently press the dumpling to flatten the bottom so it stands upright.
- Optionally, place a small amount of finely grated carrot on top of the filling for a pop of color. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
- Steam the Dumplings:
- Line a bamboo steamer or a steaming basket with parchment paper or cabbage leaves to prevent sticking. Arrange the dumplings in the steamer, making sure they are not touching.
- Bring a pot of water to a boil and place the steamer over the boiling water. Cover and steam the dumplings for 10-12 minutes, or until the pork is fully cooked and the wrappers are tender.
- Serve:
- Carefully remove the dumplings from the steamer and serve them hot with soy sauce, chili oil, or black vinegar for dipping.
Steamed Pork and Shrimp Dumplings are a delightful fusion of flavors and textures, offering a taste of authentic Chinese dim sum in every bite. Their juicy filling and tender wrappers make them a perfect appetizer or main dish that’s sure to be a hit with family and friends.
