Ingredients:

  • 1 lb beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1-2 red chilies, thinly sliced (adjust to your heat preference)
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar or lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, for balance)
  • 1/4 cup water or beef broth
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional for extra heat)
  • Fresh cilantro or green onions, for garnish
  • Steamed rice or noodles, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the beef: In a medium bowl, toss the thinly sliced beef with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.
  2. Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the 1/4 cup soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar (or lime juice), sugar, and water or beef broth. Set aside.
  3. Sear the beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and sear for 1-2 minutes on each side until browned but not fully cooked through. Remove the beef from the pan and set it aside.
  4. Cook the vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add the onion, bell peppers, garlic, ginger, and red chilies. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are softened but still crisp.
  5. Add the beef and sauce: Return the beef to the skillet and pour in the sauce. Stir everything together and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the beef is fully cooked and the sauce thickens slightly. If you want extra heat, sprinkle in the crushed red pepper flakes.
  6. Serve: Remove the stir fry from the heat and garnish with fresh cilantro or green onions. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

This Spicy Beef Stir Fry is a perfect blend of heat, savory flavors, and fresh veggies, making it a great meal for any night of the week. Adjust the spice level to your liking, and enjoy this delicious, quick-to-make dish!
