Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
  • 2 cups water or beef broth
  • 8 oz spaghetti, broken in half
  • Fresh basil or parsley, for garnish
  • Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Meatballs: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined. Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
  2. Cook the Meatballs: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Cook the Onions: In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Add the marinara sauce and water or beef broth, stirring to combine.
  4. Add the Spaghetti: Bring the sauce to a simmer, then add the broken spaghetti. Stir to make sure the spaghetti is evenly distributed and submerged in the sauce.
  5. Simmer the Dish: Return the meatballs to the skillet, nestling them into the sauce and pasta. Cover the skillet and simmer on low heat for 12-15 minutes, or until the spaghetti is tender and the meatballs are cooked through. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. Serve: Once the spaghetti is cooked and the sauce has thickened, remove from heat. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and additional Parmesan cheese if desired. Serve hot, straight from the skillet.
