Sausage Pizza Pasta

Sausage Pizza Pasta is the ultimate comfort dish that combines the best of two worlds: the savory goodness of a classic sausage pizza and the hearty satisfaction of pasta. This recipe takes all your favorite pizza toppings—spicy Italian sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, and gooey mozzarella—and blends them with perfectly cooked pasta, all enveloped in a rich, herby tomato sauce. It’s a family-friendly meal that’s perfect for weeknights when you crave something warm, filling, and utterly delicious.

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz penne or rotini pasta
  • 1 lb Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 cup sliced pepperoni
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced (optional)
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside, leaving a small amount of fat in the pan.
  3. Cook the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Sauté until the vegetables are softened, about 5-7 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Return the cooked sausage to the skillet, then stir in the marinara sauce, oregano, basil, and crushed red pepper flakes. Let the sauce simmer for about 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  5. Assemble the Dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta with the sausage and sauce mixture. Stir in the pepperoni and half of the mozzarella cheese. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  6. Bake: Top the pasta mixture with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving.

Enjoy your Sausage Pizza Pasta hot and watch it become a new favorite in your household!
