This easy Raspberry Chia Jam is a delightful way to enjoy fresh, juicy raspberries in a healthy, homemade jam that’s naturally thickened with chia seeds. Unlike traditional jams that require a lot of sugar and pectin, this recipe uses chia seeds to create a gel-like texture, offering a nutrient-packed alternative that’s low in sugar and high in fiber and omega-3s. Perfect for spreading on toast, swirling into yogurt, or topping off your favorite dessert, this jam is quick to make and can be stored in the fridge for up to a week.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups fresh or frozen raspberries
- 2 tablespoons chia seeds
- 1–2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey (optional, to taste)
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional, for added brightness)
Instructions:
- Cook the raspberries: In a small saucepan over medium heat, add the raspberries. Stir and mash them gently with a fork or potato masher until they break down and become saucy. Cook for about 5 minutes until the mixture starts to simmer.
- Add the chia seeds: Once the raspberries are broken down, stir in the chia seeds. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture cook for another 3–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it starts to thicken.
- Sweeten the jam: Taste the jam and add maple syrup or honey if desired. You can also add the lemon juice at this stage for extra tang.
- Cool and set: Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the jam to cool slightly. As it cools, the chia seeds will continue to thicken the jam. Transfer the mixture to a clean jar or container and let it cool completely before storing.
- Store: Once cooled, store the Raspberry Chia Jam in the refrigerator. It will keep for about one week.
Enjoy this simple, healthy jam on toast, pancakes, or in smoothies for a burst of fresh raspberry flavor!
