Pot Stickers

Pot stickers, also known as Chinese dumplings, are a beloved dish featuring a crispy, pan-fried bottom with a tender, steamed top. Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 package round dumpling wrappers
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
  • ½ cup water (for steaming)

Dipping Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon chili oil (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine ground pork, chopped cabbage, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and sugar. Mix thoroughly until well-combined.
  2. Assemble the Pot Stickers: Take a dumpling wrapper and place about 1 teaspoon of filling in the center. Wet the edges of the wrapper with water, then fold in half to create a crescent shape. Pleat the edges, pressing to seal. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  3. Cook the Pot Stickers: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Arrange the pot stickers in the pan in a single layer, flat side down. Cook until the bottoms are golden brown, about 2 minutes.
  4. Steam the Pot Stickers: Once browned, pour ¼ cup of water into the skillet and immediately cover with a lid. Steam for 4-5 minutes, or until the water evaporates and the pot stickers are fully cooked.
  5. Make the Dipping Sauce: In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, chili oil (if using), and sugar until combined.
  6. Serve: Serve the pot stickers hot with the dipping sauce on the side.
