Hot Dog Fried Rice

Hot Dog Fried Rice is a playful twist on the classic fried rice dish, blending the comfort of hot dogs with the savory goodness of stir-fried rice. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a fun weekend lunch, this dish is both kid-friendly and surprisingly flavorful. The hot dogs add a meaty, smoky taste that pairs perfectly with the eggs, vegetables, and soy sauce, creating a satisfying meal that’s as easy to make as it is to eat. Customize it with your favorite vegetables or seasonings to make it your own!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups cooked white rice (preferably cold)
  • 4 hot dogs, sliced into thin rounds
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Green onions, chopped, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the ingredients: Make sure your rice is cold to avoid it becoming mushy when fried. Slice the hot dogs into thin rounds and dice the vegetables.
  2. Cook the hot dogs: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large pan or wok over medium heat. Add the sliced hot dogs and cook until they are browned and slightly crispy. Remove the hot dogs from the pan and set them aside.
  3. Sauté the vegetables: In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add the diced onion and carrot, and sauté until the onion becomes translucent and the carrot begins to soften, about 3-4 minutes. Add the garlic and frozen peas, cooking for another minute until the garlic is fragrant.
  4. Scramble the eggs: Push the vegetables to one side of the pan and pour the beaten eggs into the empty space. Scramble the eggs until fully cooked, then mix them with the vegetables.
  5. Fry the rice: Add the cold rice to the pan, breaking up any clumps with a spatula. Stir-fry the rice with the vegetables and eggs for a few minutes until everything is well combined and the rice is heated through.
  6. Add the seasonings: Pour in the soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), and sesame oil. Stir well to ensure the rice is evenly coated with the sauces. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Combine everything: Add the cooked hot dogs back into the pan, stirring to distribute them throughout the rice. Cook for another minute to heat the hot dogs through.
  8. Serve: Remove the fried rice from the heat and garnish with chopped green onions. Serve hot, and enjoy your Hot Dog Fried Rice!

This dish is delicious on its own but can also be paired with a simple salad or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
