Honey-Pecan Squares

Honey-Pecan Squares are a rich and decadent treat that combines the nutty flavor of pecans with the sweetness of honey in a buttery shortbread crust. These squares are reminiscent of pecan pie but in a convenient, handheld form, making them perfect for parties, potlucks, or as an indulgent snack. The sticky honey filling, packed with toasted pecans, provides a delightful contrast to the crisp, tender crust, creating a dessert that’s both satisfying and memorable. Whether you’re a fan of classic pecan pie or just love a sweet, nutty dessert, these Honey-Pecan Squares are sure to hit the spot.

Ingredients:

For the Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes

For the Filling:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 2 cups pecans, roughly chopped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
  2. Prepare the Crust: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cold butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Bake the Crust: Press the crumb mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove from the oven and set aside.
  4. Prepare the Filling: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar, granulated sugar, honey, and heavy cream. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring constantly, and cook for 2-3 minutes until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
  5. Add the Pecans: Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the chopped pecans and vanilla extract until well combined.
  6. Assemble and Bake: Pour the pecan mixture over the pre-baked crust, spreading it evenly. Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the filling is bubbling and golden.
  7. Cool and Cut: Allow the Honey-Pecan Squares to cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, use the parchment paper overhang to lift the bars out of the pan. Cut into squares or rectangles.

These Honey-Pecan Squares are perfect for serving at room temperature and make a fantastic addition to any dessert table. They store well in an airtight container, making them an excellent make-ahead treat for any occasion.
