Ingredients:

  • 1 lb beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 can (20 oz) pineapple chunks, drained (reserve 1/4 cup juice)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (for thickening)
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
  • Cooked white rice or noodles, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef:
    • In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced beef and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until browned and just cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside.
  2. Cook the Vegetables:
    • In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and bell peppers. Sauté for 4-5 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender but still crisp. Add the minced garlic and ginger, and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  3. Make the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and the reserved 1/4 cup of pineapple juice. Pour the sauce into the skillet with the vegetables and bring to a simmer.
  4. Thicken the Sauce:
    • Stir the cornstarch mixture into the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
  5. Combine and Serve:
    • Return the cooked beef to the skillet along with the pineapple chunks. Stir everything together to coat in the sauce and cook for another 2-3 minutes, until heated through.
    • Serve the Hawaiian Beef Dish over cooked white rice or noodles, and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired.

Hawaiian Beef Dish is a delightful blend of savory and sweet flavors that transport you to the tropics with every bite. Its combination of tender beef, juicy pineapple, and vibrant vegetables makes it a crowd-pleasing meal that’s both comforting and exotic.
