Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 egg white (for brushing)
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
    • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined. Divide the dough in half, flatten each half into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  2. Prepare the Cinnamon Filling:
    • In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and ground cinnamon.
  3. Roll Out the Dough:
    • On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disk of dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Brush the dough with the egg white mixed with water, then sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the dough.
  4. Form the Swirls:
    • Starting from one long side, tightly roll the dough into a log. Wrap the log in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Repeat with the second disk of dough.
  5. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Slice and Bake:
    • Slice the chilled dough logs into 1/4-inch thick rounds and place them on the prepared baking sheets about 1 inch apart. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  7. Cool and Serve:
    • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Enjoy these delightful Cinnamon Twirl Cookies with a cup of tea or coffee, and share them with friends and family for a sweet and festive treat.
