Ingredients:

For the Filling:

  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas (thawed)
  • 1/2 cup diced potatoes (boiled and lightly mashed)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder (optional, for heat)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the Pastry:

  • 1 package of store-bought samosa or spring roll wrappers (thawed if frozen)
  • 1 large egg (beaten, for sealing)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filling: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened and translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Add garlic and ginger, cooking for an additional minute until fragrant. Add the ground chicken and cook until browned and fully cooked through, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
  2. Season the Mixture: Stir in the peas, mashed potatoes, cumin, coriander, turmeric, garam masala, and chili powder (if using). Cook for another 2-3 minutes, until the spices are well combined and the peas are tender. Season with salt, pepper, and lemon juice. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped cilantro. Allow the filling to cool slightly.
  3. Assemble the Samosas: Lay out a samosa or spring roll wrapper on a clean surface. Place a small spoonful of filling in the center. Fold the wrapper to form a triangle or rectangle, sealing the edges with a bit of beaten egg. Ensure the filling is well enclosed and the edges are sealed tightly to prevent leaks during frying.
  4. Fry the Samosas: Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pan over medium heat to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add the samosas in batches, frying until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  5. Serve: Serve warm with your choice of chutneys, such as tamarind or mint-coriander, and enjoy the crispy, flavorful bites.

These Chicken Samosas are perfect for dipping and sharing, making them a versatile and crowd-pleasing addition to any meal or party spread.
