Ingredients:

  • 12 oz spaghetti
  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage (optional)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup ricotta cheese (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the spaghetti: Cook the spaghetti in a large pot of salted boiling water according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and toss with a tablespoon of olive oil to prevent sticking. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the sauce: In a large skillet, heat the remaining olive oil over medium heat. If using, add the ground beef or sausage and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the marinara sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Assemble the casserole: In the prepared baking dish, spread a thin layer of the sauce on the bottom. Add half of the cooked spaghetti, spreading it evenly. Dollop the ricotta cheese over the spaghetti if using. Pour half of the remaining sauce over the spaghetti and sprinkle with half of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Repeat with the remaining spaghetti, sauce, and cheeses, ending with a layer of mozzarella and Parmesan on top.
  5. Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the top is golden brown.
  6. Serve: Let the Cheesy Spaghetti Bake cool slightly before garnishing with fresh basil or parsley. Serve hot, with a side of garlic bread or a green salad.

This Cheesy Spaghetti Bake is a deliciously satisfying dish that’s sure to become a family favorite. Its layers of pasta, sauce, and melted cheese make it a comforting meal perfect for any occasion!
