BUTTERY BISCUITS

Buttery Biscuits are a classic, tender, and flaky treat that are perfect for breakfast, dinner, or any time in between. These golden biscuits have a rich buttery flavor and a light, fluffy texture that makes them a great companion to everything from eggs and bacon to soups and stews. With just a few simple ingredients, these homemade biscuits come together quickly, and the result is a batch of warm, soft biscuits that melt in your mouth. Serve them with butter, honey, or jam for an irresistible treat.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk (or milk with 1 teaspoon lemon juice or vinegar)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing on top)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt.
  3. Cut in the butter: Add the cold butter cubes to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized pieces of butter remaining. The cold butter is key to creating flaky biscuits.
  4. Add the buttermilk: Pour in the buttermilk and stir until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix—it’s okay if the dough looks a little shaggy.
  5. Shape the biscuits: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Pat the dough into a 1-inch-thick rectangle. Use a biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass to cut out biscuits. Gently press together the scraps and cut out more biscuits.
  6. Bake the biscuits: Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, close together for soft sides or spaced apart for crisp edges. Brush the tops with melted butter. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and puffed.
  7. Serve: Brush the warm biscuits with more melted butter and serve immediately with butter, jam, or honey.

These Buttery Biscuits are soft, fluffy, and loaded with rich buttery flavor. They make the perfect accompaniment to any meal or can be enjoyed all on their own!
