APPLE PRALINE PIE

Apple Praline Pie is a delicious twist on the classic apple pie, topped with a rich, crunchy praline topping made from butter, brown sugar, and pecans. The filling combines sweet, spiced apples with a buttery, caramel-like topping that adds extra indulgence to every bite. This pie is perfect for fall, holidays, or any time you’re craving a comforting dessert with layers of flavor and texture.

Ingredients:

For the filling:

  • 6-7 cups apples, peeled and thinly sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

For the praline topping:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the pie crust:

  • 1 single pie crust, homemade or store-bought

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish, trim the edges, and crimp as desired.
  2. Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Mix well until the apples are evenly coated. Transfer the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly.
  3. Bake the pie: Cover the pie loosely with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the apples begin to soften.
  4. Make the praline topping: While the pie is baking, prepare the praline topping. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar, heavy cream, and salt. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped pecans.
  5. Add the praline topping: Remove the pie from the oven after the initial baking. Carefully pour the praline topping over the apples, spreading it out evenly.
  6. Finish baking: Return the pie to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the topping is bubbling and golden brown. Keep an eye on the crust; if it starts to brown too quickly, cover the edges with foil.
  7. Cool and serve: Allow the pie to cool for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the filling to set. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

This Apple Praline Pie combines the warmth of spiced apples with the rich, buttery crunch of praline, making it a perfect dessert for special occasions or cozy family gatherings. Enjoy!
