Their tender crumb and delightful sweetness make them a favorite for both special occasions and everyday meals.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup pineapple juice, warmed
  • 1/4 cup milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted for brushing (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Activate the Yeast:
    • In a small bowl, combine the warmed pineapple juice, milk, and honey. Stir in the active dry yeast and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
  2. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract.
    • Pour the yeast mixture and the butter-egg mixture into the flour mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough:
    • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
    • If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time.
  4. Let the Dough Rise:
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Rolls:
    • Punch down the risen dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface.
    • Divide the dough into 12-15 equal pieces and shape each piece into a smooth ball.
    • Place the dough balls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, leaving a little space between each roll.
  6. Second Rise:
    • Cover the baking dish with a clean towel and let the rolls rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until they have doubled in size.
  7. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Bake the Rolls:
    • Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
    • If desired, brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter immediately after they come out of the oven for an extra soft and buttery finish.
  9. Serve:
    • Let the rolls cool slightly before serving.

Enjoy your soft and sweet Hawaiian Dinner Rolls, perfect for any occasion!
