Ingredients:
- 1 whole turkey (12-14 pounds), thawed and cleaned
- 1 pound bacon
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 lemon, quartered
- 1 onion, quartered
- 2 cups chicken broth
Instructions:
- Prepare the Turkey:
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Pat the turkey dry with paper towels and place it on a rack in a large roasting pan.
- Make the Herb Butter:
- In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, thyme, rosemary, sage, salt, and black pepper.
- Season the Turkey:
- Carefully loosen the skin of the turkey breast by gently sliding your hand under the skin.
- Rub half of the herb butter mixture under the skin and the other half all over the outside of the turkey.
- Stuff the Turkey:
- Place the lemon quarters and onion quarters inside the cavity of the turkey.
- Wrap the Turkey with Bacon:
- Starting at the neck of the turkey, lay strips of bacon over the breast, overlapping slightly to cover the entire breast and top of the drumsticks.
- Tuck any remaining bacon pieces into the sides of the turkey.
- Roast the Turkey:
- Pour the chicken broth into the bottom of the roasting pan.
- Cover the turkey loosely with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven.
- Roast for about 3 hours, basting occasionally with the pan juices. Remove the foil during the last 30-45 minutes of roasting to allow the bacon to become crispy.
- The turkey is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part of the thigh and breast.
- Rest and Serve:
- Remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.
- Transfer the turkey to a serving platter and garnish with additional fresh herbs if desired.
Enjoy your succulent and flavorful Bacon Wrapped Turkey!
