Ingredients

For the Wontons:

  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 20 wonton wrappers

For the Soup:

  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 cup baby spinach or bok choy, chopped
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Wontons:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, and white pepper. Mix well.
    • Place a wonton wrapper on a flat surface. Add a teaspoon of the pork mixture to the center of the wrapper.
    • Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, fold it in half to form a triangle, and press the edges to seal. You can also bring the two bottom corners together for a traditional wonton shape.
    • Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  2. Make the Soup:
    • In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a boil over medium-high heat.
    • Add soy sauce, sesame oil, and ginger to the broth.
    • Gently add the prepared wontons to the boiling broth and cook for 4-5 minutes or until the wontons float and the pork is cooked through.
  3. Add Vegetables:
    • Add the baby spinach or bok choy and cook for another 1-2 minutes until wilted.
    • Season the soup with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Serve:
    • Ladle the soup into bowls, ensuring each serving has a few wontons and plenty of broth.
    • Garnish with sliced green onions and serve hot.
