Fried Apples

Fried Apples are a classic Southern comfort food that can be enjoyed as a side dish, dessert, or even a breakfast topping. These tender, caramelized apples are cooked with butter, sugar, and warm spices, creating a dish that is both sweet and savory. They pair perfectly with biscuits, pancakes, or pork chops, adding a rich, cinnamon-infused flavor that’s irresistibly cozy. Whether you’re looking for a quick treat or a special addition to your meal, fried apples are simple to make and a guaranteed hit.

Ingredients:

  • 4 large apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions:

  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the apple slices to the skillet, stirring to coat them in the melted butter.
  3. Sprinkle the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt over the apples. Stir to combine.
  4. Cook the apples for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they become tender and the sugar forms a syrupy glaze.
  5. Add the vanilla extract and lemon juice, stirring well to blend the flavors.
  6. Continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes, or until the apples are fully caramelized and soft.
  7. Remove from heat and serve warm.

Fried apples are delicious on their own, but they also make a fantastic topping for pancakes, waffles, or even a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
