Capers and Halibut is a delicious, elegant dish that combines the mild, flaky texture of halibut with the bold, briny flavor of capers. This dish is quick and easy to prepare, making it perfect for weeknight dinners yet impressive enough for special occasions. The lemony, caper-infused sauce adds brightness to the rich halibut, creating a perfectly balanced meal when served with fresh vegetables or a side of rice.
Ingredients:
- 4 halibut fillets (about 6 oz each)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons capers, drained
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 1/4 cup white wine (or chicken broth)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
- Lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions:
- Pat the halibut fillets dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the halibut fillets and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, until the fish is golden brown and flakes easily with a fork. Remove the fillets from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the butter and add the minced garlic. Cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.
- Stir in the capers, lemon juice, and white wine (or chicken broth), scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Let the sauce simmer for 2-3 minutes, reducing slightly.
- Return the halibut fillets to the skillet, spooning the sauce over the fish. Cook for another 1-2 minutes to heat through.
- Serve the halibut topped with the caper sauce, garnished with fresh parsley and lemon wedges on the side.
This capers and halibut dish is a flavorful and light entrée that pairs well with roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a simple green salad for a complete meal!
